Renting Trucks to Get the Job Done

The work never stops at Gana Trucking & Excavating, so much so, that we are always looking to hire more trucks! It’s not uncommon for us to have all 100 of our trucks running as well as up to another 100 from outside companies to cover all of our jobs…it’s a good problem to have! It means that we have plenty of work to do and that our communities are growing.

Why We Rent

To put it simply — the more trucks we need, the larger demand for work there is. With the number of trucks that we currently own, we can keep our employees busy all year long and even into winter when work slows down. Now that it’s summer, we need almost double the number of trucks we own to make our workload efficient. During this time of year, it’s not unusual for us to rent 25-75 subbed-out trucks every day. We rent a variety of trucks based on the projects we’re working on. We rent anything from belly dumps to truck and pups, dump trucks, lowboys, and side dumps. In fact, side dumps are our biggest demand. All in all, the rental equipment is used to support the amount of equipment we have and to be able to complete our jobs efficiently.

Benefits of Renting

Why do we decide to rent? Here are some components we considered when making that decision.

  • Project-Based Work – The benefit of renting trucks rather than purchasing is that our company relies on project-based work, which means that we get paid when we have projects. Our industry faces its own set of challenges, like weather conditions that can delay projects for months on end. Rather than paying to have a whole fleet of trucks sit unused in the yard during the winter, we rent based on the projects we are working on. It’s helpful to have the flexibility to only rent for the week we need them and being able to return them after the project is completed.
  • Lower Initial Cost – Purchasing a whole fleet of trucks is expensive. Rather than making a large one-time payment for each truck, we have the flexibility to pay as we need when renting. When choosing to purchase, we have to ensure that we are going to use it enough to get its full lifetime value out of it.
  • Less Maintenance for Us – Another perk of renting means that we have less maintenance to worry about. We have the luxury of renting trucks that are well-maintained by independent contractors. Our mechanics can focus on our fleet, which means more quality maintenance and more reliable trucks for everyone.
  • Access to More Trucks – Not only can we pick and choose the rental time period, but we have the ability to rent equipment that is job-specific. Some jobs may require lowboys while others need side dumps. Not all construction jobs require the same exact equipment, so having the flexibility to rent a specialized piece of equipment is beneficial.
