Safety First
Safety is something that we collectively and consciously work towards every day. We have an extensive orientation and require ongoing training programs for drivers. Many of our employees have chosen to acquire certifications for their respective lines of work — even though certification is not required to be employed by Gana. At all times, our drivers are able to utilize resources and professionals to identify and eliminate workplace hazards. As a way to encourage and implement safety, we also offer multiple safety bonus programs for those who go above and beyond.
MOD Rates and CSA Scores
With these practices in place, we boast some of the lowest MOD rates and CSA scores in the industry. The MOD rate is determined by OSHA recordables, in which, companies report how much they pay each month in workers’ compensation premiums. The premiums are compared to similar companies and then ranked. Ultimately, the less you pay in workers’ comp, the lower the MOD rate. Additionally, our drivers have received outstanding CSA scores, which stands for compliance, safety, and accountability. This program is overseen by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and ensures that all drivers are held accountable for their role in safety. The FMCSA reports data from inspections about driver and vehicle violations, such as unsafe driving, crashes, hours of service, and vehicle maintenance. The scores are then ranked amongst similar carriers and are assigned a percentile from 0 to 100. The lower the percentile, the better the performance. We are proud to rank low in both of these categories, which means our safety is above-average for our industry.
Training and Resources
As a safety-oriented company, it’s a goal of ours to offer the proper training and resources needed to complete a job both safely and efficiently. We’re so confident in our safety programs that we hire drivers right out of truck driving school. Despite having little experience, we have seen great results in training and mentoring newly graduated drivers on our own. Not only does this help develop skills for new drivers, but it serves as an opportunity to fine-tune and strengthen skills for experienced drivers as well.
