Wind Farm Construction
The construction of wind farms is quite different from general construction. In many cases, these farms are located in rugged, isolated places with no infrastructure, which means worksites need to be excavated and access roads need to be built. Each wind turbine requires major earthwork for laying the foundation. Turbines are manufactured in a variety of sizes, but they commonly sit on 30 ft. by 50 ft. foundation boxes and are placed 6 ft. to 30 ft. into the ground. As for the roads, all will need to be stabilized for heavy weight-bearing loads as well as meet the specified grade for equipment. As you can imagine, there’s a lot of dirt to be moved, so excavating and trucking are necessary for this kind of project.
Solar Farm Construction
Just like a wind farm, solar farms are quite complex to build as well. Yet again, many of the chosen locations are sparsely populated areas, which means there is less infrastructure to be utilized. The land will need to be cleared and leveled, and roads will need to be built to ensure easy access. These farms can span several acres, and it’s critical that the dirt on these farms stay in place. If the ground beneath the solar panels shifts, these structures will become less efficient and can even get damaged beyond repair.
