We’re spotlighting Deon Prinsloo this month! Deon has been with Gana Trucking & Excavating for over 11 years. While he has held many positions, he is currently an equipment operator. He runs just about every piece of equipment, but he spends a lot of time in the backhoe loader. No matter what he’s driving, he enjoys it all as operating equipment is his favorite part of his job. Deon has worked on countless projects over the years, but one that specifically sticks out in his memory is working on the three parking garages in the Haymarket.
Each project comes with its own set of challenges, but one thing that no one can control is the weather. Deon says that the weather is the most challenging part of his job since it influences everything — like whether a job gets done on time or not. With his job, you really have to take it one day at a time.
Over the past 11 years, Deon has watched Gana grow and develop as a company. While the company size has changed, two things remain the same — the nice people and good working environment. These are two aspects that he would be sure to tell someone if they were considering a job at Gana.
Here’s what two of Deon’s colleagues had to say about him:
“Deon is one of my favorite guys to work with. He is very experienced and can run pretty much anything very effectively. He has a great personality and attitude which is refreshing and helpful when working in high pressure situations and makes working with him on a day to day basis enjoyable. He is one of the leaders of the operator team and is a very valued employee.” – Adam Root, Project Manager/Estimator
“Deon is the epitome of a hardworking dedicated man that has worked thru more extraordinary circumstances than most any person I have ever met or know of. He and his wife Mel are the perfect example of hard work and making the right decisions to give their family the American Dream. Deon has come from learning the trade to continually mastering it and leading by example. Glad to be able to work with Deon.” – Jake Whitefoot, Vice President
We can’t quite thank Deon enough for his dedication to Gana Trucking & Excavating for the last 11 years. It’s hard workers like him who make our company what it is today. We appreciate you, Deon!
